Default Returning a Winston

Has anyone had any experience in returning a Winston rod. I have a Vapor 4wt that snapped at the top section and unfortunately I never filled out the warranty card to send it in. Apparently they want you to send the card in within 10 days of purchasing the rod. Will they replace my top section even though I didn't fill out that little form. Thanks.

Hi liv2fish,

I have never had any warranty claims with Winston. There warranty statements are pretty straight forward.

1. You have to be the original owner.

2. You have to buy the rod from an authorized dealer.

3. You have to send in your warrant registration card in 10 days of the purchase.

4. You have to send in the complete rod for a repair and pay the postage.

5. There is a fee of $50 for Winston to repair and return your rod.

If you didn't do any of these things they could refuse to repair your rod. In reality I think they may be a little flexible to satisfy a customer. Call customer service and ask them. You might get your dealer to help you out if you bought it from a local fly shop.

I would try the repair Email below.

Sorry, I can't be much help either. I have GS2 and never had to use the warrenty. I agree with Frank on what he said. Most manufactures will work with you.

Liv2fish

Lambster and I broke a Winston rod while floating the North Platte this summer (don't ask how!). Anyway, all I know was that it was a new rod and it cost Lambster $45 to have it repaired. I don't know if the warranty card was filled in or not. Sorry.

I've never had to return a Winston, so can't answer your question, but I can make a suggestion. Post your question on the Winston rod forum. With all the Winston rod owners on the site, someone will be able to answer your question. Here is the link:

I doubt that they will; they certainly don't have to. But with some begging, they might. Good luck!

Give 'em a try, I know a couple of those guys over there at the "headquarters" - plead ignorance when you call customer service. I'll bet they'll do it.....
