Default 2 piece vs. 4 piece

Besides ability to travel better does a 4 piece rod have any advantages over a 2 piece rod or vice versa?

Mike,
I have heard that a 2 piece has better action than a 4 piece but this could be a myth. I can definitely testify to the fact that they (4 pieces) are much more convenient, as I have just purchased a new Sage two piece and it makes for clumsy storage and transport. 4 pieces generally cost 30-60 dollars more than 2 pieces, but when you are snapping $400 rods, it may be worth it to fork over the extra dough for more manageable rod parts. I guess it all comes down to what's important to you!

Mike

I used to fish with two piece rods and finally spurged on a four piece. Personally, I can not tell the difference in rod action between the two. the four piece sure is nice, even when traveling in the car. In the past I used to have to squeeze the two piece in some trunks, that is no longer a problem.

I have a Diamondback Aeroflex 8'6" 5wt in both 3 piece and 2 piece. Can't
tell one bit of difference. Some say a 3 piece has its fles points in better
positions along the rod.

I would have to say it depends on the rod maker. Some 4 piece rods have
loose fitting sections, and it's much easier to check and tighten a 2 piece
rod. My Caprice and Jeep Grand Cherokee make transport easy for 2 piece,
but I have been using all 4-piece rods lately.
