Re: Winged Wet Fly Swap, Winter 2012
Nice looking bunch-a-flies.
I really struggled with this swap. Nothing I did made me happy. I was gonna try a Greenwell's Glory but as simple as the body is, I could never get the wings right and I had a hard time finding decent Furnace hackle for the beard. When I finally got some hackle I liked I decided I hate beards. So I tried a full hackled version (which from my reading is OK) but I could never get the wings to sit right so I ended up with a bunch of greenwell's body soft hackles. So I went with my first choice of the Dark Cahill and still I found I don't like beards so I went with the full hackle version. I took some pictures and showed them to a friend that has been tying for about 30 years and he said that they were OK but the head is too big, the hackle too long, and not enough wing, the result is the wing get's lost in the hackle. This is what I was going for, http://d25gtpn5p7hhlr.cloudfront.net...ll-550x412.jpg Still, I think they will fish well. |

A lot of tying talent demonstrated in this swap! I just hope that I can be up to the standard with the two swaps that I'm a part of!

Man i really wish you guys would have gotten to see the Tellico Flymphs but they got lost in the mail. Special thanks to Mark (Peregrines) for tying up some replacement flys. All the flys were exellent and i look forward to fishing them.

Re: Winged Wet Fly Swap, Winter 2012
Hi Austin.
Your Flies will propably turn up in a month or so,pity I couldn't have predicted the loss as unfortunately I'm no good in that line,I could have sent an extra dozen or so to save Mark tying them as I tied 5 1/2 dozen in 6 different Patterns then picked the ones to send. Brian. |
