Re: Carp Fly Swap
I like to think I'm at least a little responsible for getting the Free State guys (and gals) turned on to carp - at least a lot of them, but they have really excelled in the tying department. When they were forming their group, my partner and I did several programs for them, and we still do now and then.
I don't have (or maybe I just don't make) enough time to tie as much as I should, and I've settled on a couple of patterns or variations on patterns that work for me. As a guide, I also hate to watch a client toss a fly into the rocks or bushes if I've spent 15 minutes tying it. So, we tie "guide flies" that only take a minute or two to tie in most cases.
Maybe we miss some choosy fish, but we've had 30 fish days on our simple flies. And Mark, you're right. We fish a lot of freshwater variants of our bonefish and redfish patterns on carp... or is it that we fish a lot of saltwater variants of our carp patterns on bonefish and redfish? Chicken....egg....????
