Default Wet flies 2008

Frank, Like always you make me rise above.......

Lets try for a anything goes wet fly (soft hackle) swap. If Joni will join up...well we gotta be onto something.

(P.S, I only suggested Yellow Sallies, because I wanted some for my box)

Man I would but I'm in the process starting a new job 250 miles from a house I need to get sold. I'll be in South Texas again soon.

I'll join the swap. My favorite wet was already called for. I'll find another or make something up. What size do you prefer, 12, is what I like.

I have never done a swap before and don't know if I can. I have a question about cost. How does the swapmeister get paid for postage to send out the flies? I don't think he should have to pay for it out of his pocket? If the flies are in a small box it could add up to a few dollars.

Just thought I would through this out as I don't know how it works.

Frank

In normal swaps the swapmeister tyes no flies but gets a set from the contributors as payment for handling the swap. The usual swap is ten to 12 tyers. So swapmeister makes the 13th tyer. He handles the flies ..sorts them and gets them mailed out to the tyers. The average cost per sucrets box to mail back to the tyers is about $2.25. That comes to about 27.00 per swap for a dozen flies, just for being swapmeister.

But I have been in some swaps where every tyer sent a postage paid envelope to get his flies returned in.

I'm a new member and have never participated in a fly swap but I love fishing soft hackles....so....if there's any room left in this swap, I'd like to join. I put together a tan biot and partridge emerger-style that has served me well this past year. I could tie up some of them in a 14 or 16. If I'm in, give me the specifics.

Hi to all,

We need to have a few more tyers before we proceed with a swap. Those of you who has signed on will need to have a little patience.

To my mind we need to do something about the Hoist getting stuck with the cost of sending out the flies. Does anyone have an idea?

Frank

I'd be willing to send $3 (or whatever) to cover the cost of postage when I send in my flies. Cheaper than a gallon of gas - right?!
