I was at the tying desk tonight tying the Streamers and thought...MY favorite type of fishing is deep nymphing with Chironomids.
So how about a Chronomid swap for May. Make the dead line for all these flies May 5th
Cut off at a dozen people, so...who is in?

Okay, a Chironomid is a worm/pupa stage of an insect.
Chironomid's are one of the trout's main food sources and hatch pretty much all year long on streams, rivers, and lakes. Up North they start to hatch when the ice leaves the lake and continue until the ice comes back on. Mid May ‘til the end of June will find the strongest hatches.

Basically, Thread, Wire, Thorax, Gills. Some with beads some without.

Thanks Joni,

OK; I've never tied one of those before, but I'm game and I always get more fish sub-surface than I do on top (even though I love the visual element of fising dries). I'm a taker - count me in!

Right On Thanks. This is really one of the easiest flies to tie. Not as easy as a SJW but close LOL

I tied this one for the St Patty's swap:

Here is another one:

I like the beads but you don't need to add them

I haven't been in on a fly swap for about three years and since chironomids are right up my alley, I'm in.

I'll tie up one of my patterns.

Doc's Black Thread Midge.

Cheers,
Doc

LOL! I know what you mean BlueDun! I just checked the swaps I'm in: hmmm....Valentines Day soft hackle; St. Patricks Day swap; Dry fly swap ;and Chromonoid swap! And then 2 weeks ago my son calls from Connecticut and says, "hey dad, Ann and I want to get married at your house on Valentines Day!?! That's causing some excitement on the home front! Nice that the winter months are 'slow' for me!
