Re: "off pattern" fly swap
OK, you wanted off patterns,
I have tied up 6 mini goblins
These are kind of a wooley bugger with a wetfly hackle on a size 14 with a bit of a color kick.
The original goblin is big and bulky, but since I don't have a lot of luck with big flies, I tied this one smaller.
The original goblin was designed to be a combination of a bugger, bunny fly and a maribou. Most effective in murky or muddy water, during runoff or after a storm.
The mini is not so obtrusive but is intended to use the same contrast combinations Black body, black crystal chenille, Black and White (grizzley hackle) and orange (zonker) to get the attention of the fish when the water gets murky.
Size 14 nymph hook (mustad 3399A is what I tied em on)
Black 6/0 thread
Black crystal chenille
extra long grizzley hackle (2x normal) tied in just 3 or 4 wraps like a wet fly
Top it off with a bright orange rabbit fur wing (I cut it from orange zonkers).
I tied a couple extra and hope to get them on the river this weekend.
