Alan

Now that I'm back from vacation, I plan on tying some BMB Buggers (Bite Me Buggers), haven't decided on the color yet.

TYING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BMB:

HEAD: CONE (LG FOR SIZE 2-4) (MED FOR SIZE 6-8) (SMALL FOR SIZE 10-12)
THREAD: 3/0 COLOR TO MATCH
TAIL: MARABOU TO MATCH WITH KRYSTAL FLASH
BODY: CANADIAN SERIES MOHAIR PALAMERED IN OVER UNDER BODY OF FURRY FOAM OR CHENILLE
----------------------------------------------------------------------
TYING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. TIE IN MARABOU TAIL. MEASURE TO SHANK OF HOOK.
2. TIE IN THREE STRANDS OF KRYSTAL FLASH ON EACH SIDE OF TAIL
3. TIE IN UNDERBODY
4. TIE IN MOHAIR
5. PALMER UNDERBODY TO CONE
6. PALMER MOHAIR OVER UNDERBODY UP TO CONE AND WHIP FINISH
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Larry,

Good looking BMBs! Really interesting effect with the palmered mohair. Overall, I think it's hard to beat black in a beadhead or conehead, but I like the off-white tie at the bottom. Your choice!

Anyone else have an opinion?

Default Re: Wooly Bugger Swap?

I received the first set of flies for the swap this week; a dozen+ Chili Pepper Buggers from Peregrines. Thanks Mark. Very nice flies!

You'll all enjoy fishing this lighter Bugger pattern.

I know that both Davec921 and BlueBird have finished theirs up and McNerney is getting ready to fire up his tying bench for some BMB's, so things are starting to move.

Let me know how you're coming on your flies.

Here's an update on the roster/patterns:

FISHN50
Rmooney - Beadhead grizzly Bugger
Pocono - Adams Bugger (yup, I changed my mind!)
Aroostookbasser - BC Bassin Bugger
Mcnerney - Bite Me Bugger
Arfishinbear - Brown and copper sparkle Bugger
Peregrines - Chili Pepper - RECEIVED
Davec921 - Blue & silver Bugger
Hardyreels
Jimmie - Conehead white grizzly crystal Bugger
Webrx - Exorcist Bugger
Neversink - Wet Dog Bugger
BigCliff- The Holy Grail
BlueBird - Fiery Smoke Bugger

FISHN50, Hardyreels and BigCliff, any decisions before the vacation season really kicks into high gear?

Don't forget, we've got 14 tyers in this swap.

I'll be tying The Holy Grail: holo silver and grey and sexy.

Only have the beads on the hooks so far, but I'll have them ready by labor day.

Here's my progress. Just like the last swap this newb is going to re-tie a couple (actually new ties to replace a couple I'm not happy with the finished fly). Very close to a finish.
Recipe:
Hook: Mus 9672, #6, Barb pinched.
Thread: White 6/0
Conehead: Gold; med.
Tail: White marabou; Pearl Krystal flash
Body: Pearl Chennile
Hackle: Grizzley saddle; White saddle; both palmered over body.

Jimmie: Those buggers look awesome, I'm sure they will fish very well! Great work! Can't wait to try them out on the North Platte this fall.

Jimmie,

How do you palmer your double hackle? 1. Side-by-side, with a single palmer wrap, 2. palmer one up through the other, or 3. twist them both together and then single palmer? I usually use the twist together, single palmer on my Adams Bugger. I picked it up as a technique in Gary Soucie's book "Woolly Wisdom". I think it gives a really "buggy" effect to the body.

I counted 14 flies in your pics. Thanks.

Here's another re-cap on the roster / patterns:

FISHN50 - tbd
Rmooney - Beadhead grizzly Bugger
Pocono - Adams Bugger
Aroostookbasser - BC Bassin Bugger
Mcnerney - Bite Me Bugger
Arfishinbear - Brown and copper sparkle Bugger
Peregrines - Chili Pepper - RECEIVED
Davec921 - Blue & silver Bugger
Hardyreels - tbd
Jimmie - Conehead white grizzly crystal Bugger
Webrx - Exorcist Bugger
Neversink - Wet Dog Bugger
BigCliff - The Holy Grail
BlueBird - Fiery Smoke Bugger - IN THE MAIL

Single side by side wraps Pocono. Just because that was how I was taught. It takes way too much shaking through the first hackle to keep it looking good. I love your idea of twisting them together and wrap as one. Can't wait to try that (on my re-ties if it looks the same). Thanks.
