I just purchased the Lamson Konic 2 reel. The first impression was that of the reels finish. It looks like bead blasted stainless steel although It isn't.
I decided to compar it directly against the Lamson Litespeed to determine if they maintained their quality and here is what I saw.Click here to read the entire review

No one else?

I echo what others have said: the Lamson Konic is the best inexpensive fly reel on the market.

great reel for the price. I was able to get a 1.5 for 89.95 and free shipping. Over all it's is good quality. The biggest disappointment for me was it is made overseas and not in the USA.

reel now discontinued per lamson website.
bought it. first time out 5wt leader jammed between the spool and the frame.
cabelas salesman told me they pulled them all (spokane).
****ed up way to find out on my only fly trip of the year.

I fished these reels for 4 years, the only problem has been the frame icing up in the winter. Sounds like you had bad luck, these are great reels!

Only time I've had that happen is when the day is over and you're storing your leader into the reel.

Aside from that, I haven't experienced any problems with the first generation of Konics. The gap between the spool and the frame is a bit larger than normal, but during normal operation, I haven't seen an instance where that would become a problem.

Sounds good. I need an 8wt reel to match my Sage 8 wt for steelhead.

I got rid of my Litespeed 2 trout reels and bought konic 2's instead. I pocketed about $200 on the exchange.
After 4 years I think I made a great decision. The konics work fine for my trout fishing and I have landed a number of 3 to 6# Cuts, Brooks, and Rainbows
on 5 and 6X tippets and the drag has worked flawlessly. I have dropped my konics (in fact I dropped one of mine tonight while putting it away after fishing) and there has never been the slightest damage.
The only negative I can add is that the polyurethane gray finish has worn off where the line rubs when being pulled off the reel. Not a biggy to my way of thinking; it just adds character!
