Default New fly line

hi all,

my old 5 line ( Rio Mastery Trout dt floating ) is broken. I need a new one but i have some doubts about what line to buy. The rod is a Sage ZXL 9' # 5. I fish little lakes and a medium river, hook 12-16 ninphes and some dry. Do you think Sage double quiet taper is a good choise?

My opinion, stay in the sage family but go with the RIO gold. Just a great all around fly line.

The ZXL is a wonderful rod with a medium fast action. I would recommend your line choice on what you want to accomplish.

General Purpose - SA Mastery Trout, SA Sharkskin Ultimate Trout Taper (WF), Rio Gold

Presentation - SA Mastery XPS, SA Sharkskin Ultimate Trout Taper (DT), Rio Trout LT

Since you fish nymphs and some dries, I would err towards a general purpose line.

The Sage lines are made by Rio. Madison River Outfitters has some Sage and Rio lines on clearance here: CLEARANCE & SPECIALS - Product Catalog

But, for the money, I would look at Justin's lines at Allen Flyfishing, a site sponsor here. He gives forum members a killer discount and his lines I'd hold up against any of the major manufacturers. See them here: Allen Fly Fishing

PM Justin at allenflyfishing and he'll give you all the info you'll need.

Kelly.

Hi pescatrota,

A lot of answers are based on where you live. You might want to add your location to your Profile.

You have a Double Taper fly line and you say it is broken. With two ends to the fly line I don't see how it could be broken to a point that it is not usable. Now if both ends are worn out that is a different story. You can splice a fly line if it is not broken in a critical area.
