Default How do i remove the leader from the fly line?

I just picked up a nice 3 weight outfit and the line does not have a loop like im used to. I have no problem ataching the line to leader with a nail knot but my question is when i change leaders do i cut a peice of the fly line off with the leader? Whats the proper procedure?

I'd put one of the slip on, Chinese finger loops on the line after removing the current leader. The other choice would be to tie a piece of heavy mono with a loop tied in to the fly line. Then attach your leader loop to loop.

Just cut the leader about 12" from the tip & blood knot the new leader to it. If you want to go the loop to loop rout leave about 6" of the old leader & put a loop in the end of it.

Many people prefer to have the leader nail knoted onto the fly line. But others would nail knot a 6" long line of your choice with a loop (like a perfection loop) tied to the end. Then a loop would be tied on to the end of the leader to make a loop to loop connection.
Or if you have the leader nail knoted on to the fly line and after some use it needs to be made longer, tippet material can be added to the end. Just tie some tippet on to the end using a double or triple surgeons knot. You could add several different weights and lenghts. depending on the need.
