Default Favorite Rod Weight

Late last week, in the middle of a discussion at my local Fly Shop about favorite rods (you know, these conversations go on forever), someone asked what our favorite rod weight was. Most of the guys in the discussion have multiple rods in different weights, so no real conclusion was drawn, but I don't have that many rods, so it was easier for me. Here's my current inventory:

10 wt. - 1
9 wt. - 1
8 wt. - 1
7 wt. - 1
6 wt. - 1
5 wt. - 1
4 wt. - 0
3 wt. - 3
2-000 wt. - 0

So, that's pretty clear; I like fishing 3 wt. rods, which makes sense because my favorite species is the native Brookie; fished in small mountain streams.

What would you conclude was your weight preference if you did an inventory count on your own rods (I know, it's likely related to what your favorite species is to catch on a fly / but it may not be)?

If I go by inventory-

1 - 11wt.
1- 10wt.
3- 8wt.
2- 7wt.
3- 6wt. ( 1 in need of a total rebuild)

Its a tie by number but my 6 wts. get the most use. I learned on a 6wt. (trout) and still my favorite but 2 of my 8wts. are better quality rods than the 6wts. Just started this season to fly fish in lakes but still fall back on the 6 even for bass. My brother and I will take the 10 and 11 out for pike when the weather/water starts to cool some ( something new to try ).

My go to rod is the 6wt. I think about the 4wt and 8wt as specialty rods. The 4wt for the brushy western Sierras. The 8wt for if and when I ever fish a steelhead area. So I'll say favorite is the 6wt.

My inventory does not reflect my favorite:

1-8 wt
2-6 wts
1-5 wt
1-4 wt
1-3 wt

I have 2 - 6 wts b/c I first "good" rod purchase was supposed to be my "everything" rod. It is a great rod, but then I bought a 4 wt, and then, etc...

My favorite is the 3 wt and the brookies for which I fish with it are my favorite trout. Unfortunately, I do not get to use it as often as I'd like b/c I don't live near any brook trout. So, the rods I use most often are the 4 wt and the other 6 wt rod, which is a streamer rod.

Thumbs up Re: Favorite Rod Weight

2 wt = 1
3 wt = 1
4 wt = 2
5 wt = 1
6 wt = 3
Enjoy fishing my T&T two wt for native brookies & browns in the Bishop Creek area. Those 8 to 10" fish makes that 2 wt come alive. One of my 6 wt was my Dad's boo which is about 80 yrs old, so on the wall of my den it hangs dreaming about fishing the Neversink River.
