Default tanning bird skins?

I ran into a guy I had not seen in a couple of years and asked what he's been up to. He started raising pheasant. I asked If he had Golden or other kinds. He didn't but said he has a freind who raises red and yellow goldens, amherst, and reeve's. He's looking to get rid of them. I offered to take a few . Now that that's explained, what do I do with them? Is tanning or salting them something you can do at home? Am I just better off plucking and bagging the feathers? If I had been earlier finding out about this I could have had impeyan as well.

Diver Dan: What I do is lay the skin out and rub lots of salt over the skin and let it dry for several days. Then I put it in a plastic bag and stick it in the freezer (when the wife isn't looking) for a few days to kill any bugs that might be in the feathers. You can also use borox to tan the the skin.

Hi Diver Dan,

Check out this discussion about Tanning or Dry Processing bird skins. I think it will give you a good insight to the process.
