hi everyone.
im a newbie here. my name is josh.
last summer my professor taught me how to fly fish on california's beautiful hot creek near mammoth, ca. i ended up catch one 4" brown trout and one 4" rainbow trout. not bad for my first time.
tonight i emptied my grandmas garage to find a shakespeare 1890 reel and an eagle claw wright and mcgill rod. this summer ill be working in crater lake national park, oregon and i'd like to get some fly fishing in up there.
will the gear ive found serve my purposes?
also, can anyone recommend any place near Crater Lake (i guess i should repost this in the regional forum too).

TIA

jdb

Welcome to the group! You learned how to fly fish in a beautiful area.

The typical fly fishing set-up with a floating line may not work too well on Crater Lake, due to the fact that it is super deep and super clear, and thus the larger fish will likely be down deep. You might be able to get into some sunfish and such in the shallows on the edges though.

We've got some forum members that actually live pretty close to that area that will probably jump in and tell you about streams near Crater Lake that will be more ideal for floating line fly fishing.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.
