Default first time out

today i decided i would head to a little stream i got told had some wild brown trout that no one ever fished so thought i would give it ago, i was told it wasnt deep and wellingtons would be more than enough so left my waders in the car when i got to the the stream it was smaller than i expected and could have jumped across it in most parts but i found a few good spots that i thought would be good fishing and started fishing had no luck at first and kept snagging on the brush but after a while i started to relax and started to get a few takes but failed to land any and just about when i was going to give give up i got a take and as i got it closer to me saw it wasnt huge but landed it ,it was only about 7-8 inches ,i was about to relese it when i rembered i had my camera and took a quick picture before releseing it Click the image to open in full size. and thought thats enought i might aswell end the day on a high but i am happy with my first brown trout even if it wasnt huge and what made it better is that i caught it on a fly i tied myself

Kudos Vince, both on the fish and that you caught it on your own fly. Nicely done!

Nice. I haven't caught anything I fly that I have tied yet. But I am sure it will happen soon.

Vince - congratulations that's a great catch-- and a beautiful wild brown.

You might want to retire that fly and keep it next to a picture of that fish in a place of honor on your tying bench.

What was the pattern? One of those old school Scottish classics?

Well done! Nothing more satisfying than catching one on a fly you tied!

Congrats Vince, and I agree, kewl to catch one on a fly you tied. That is probably half the thrill for me these days, and may very well be the primary reason I tie
