Default River flow gages for all the United States.

USGS WaterWatch -- Streamflow conditions

Click on the State, that will give you the location of all the gages. You might have to look around a bit (due to scale) to find your particular river, but just bookmark if for future reference.

Most rivers will have more than one gage (and a turbidity report) so you can get a pretty darned good idea what to expect (and where) when you're planning your trip.

Was looking at a few California Rivers and this gage really caught my "What the Hell?" attention. Then it hit me, this is the Sac River Delta and the huge swings were the tide going in and out.

You can also get a lot of info from your states EPA site.

What I'd like to find (no joy as of this moment) is the Flood Maps. Thousands of them, but save for buying some computer program/disks haven't been able to find them on the Internet.

Anyone have a clue?

Have an I-PHONE? Download River Guide. While designed for white water kayaking etc., the author has added many traditional fly fishing rivers throughout the US. Have one you want added? Tell him...very cooperative designer! I have a review on my blog...look in archives.

Awesome site, thanks! The iphone and android phones can download an app from orvis that also has river reports by state that aren't bad and a knot glossory that is also helpful on the water
