Default Stretching the line....

Was readin recently and they talked about spooling out your fly line around an object and stretching it so that it doesnt develop a spool memory. Is this something necessary with the new lines or is this something that was for dated lines lacking technology and do any of you guys do this?

I dont do it. I can see where stream/river fishers might have to, but since I regularly have all my line in the water, ie Reservoirs & such, I have never noticed a need too.. Plus there are all those MONSTER TROUT I catch that stretch my line..

I was a little unhappy with my new line looping up on me as well. I asked one of the salesman at the shop that I bought it from if this was normal, and they told me yes, it'll stretch out. I've only been out once since then, so I can't say if this is true or not.

Some lines need it, some don't. Fishing the line in cold water or in cold weather makes it more likely that it will need to be stretched to get the coils out, but some will be coiled in warm conditions as well. At worst, you'll have five minutes less to fish, but stretching the line never hurts.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

I am thinking of trying what you posted earlier "Was readin recently and they talked about spooling out your fly line around an object and stretching it so that it doesnt develop a spool memory.". I'm thinking it'll work better on a hot day and let it sit for an hour or two.
