Default First on a Tenkara rod

I jumped on the Tenkara bandwagon, getting an 11' Fountainhead Tenkara rod. And at my second outting, here is the result.

Caught it on a size 10 black stonefly in the muddy soup that our streams are right now, swinging it downstream like a streamer.

Ant: Congrats! That has to feel pretty good catching your first fish on the Tenkara!

Thanks Larry. It felt a little awkward getting him to hand. I'm used to stripping line in and there's no like to strip.

Nice Anthony, I don't know what Tenkara is, but nice anyway,

Sweet! One of the gents I get out with is a Tenkara rep. When it's called for, he wields that thing like a Jedi does a light saber- and is equally effective. The drifts he gets are pure art.

Congrats on popping the cherry!

Thanks guys!

Ard, Tenkara is Japanese fly fishing; it's without a reel. You attach the leader to the end of the rod and then add tippet. You can get a real gentle presentation and use the fact that the line is only attached to the tip of the rod to keep a lot of the line off of the water, getting a drag free presentation pretty easily.

Here's a 2min video showing the in's and outs.
