The heat in a car could get high enough to melt some of the epoxies used to build rods.

I keep a 6WT in my truck all the time. I keep it in a case and try to keep it out of direct sunlight. I wouldn't keep my favorite rods in the truck since I'm sure the heat has some affect on the line, blank and epoxy but for that "emergency" stop I'm willing to risk a rod I could live without.

I do exactly the same thing and have never had any damage. I do have "vent shades" on my windows and keep them rolled down a couple inches in hot weather.

Mine is a Bass Pro rod that I bought at a yard sale. The sad part is that rod has caught as many fish and given me as much enjoyment as the fancy, shmancy rods I spend tons of money on and treat like my children...

I keep mine in the van, assembled, for sometimes more than a week at a time, summers, in the Keys and park in the sun.

I have noticed no ill effects.

Cheers,
Jim

Save for being in Death Valley the build up of heat in a car/truck won't effect the rod but WILL have an impact (over time) on the line. Most of us are using lines developed for 'cold water,' the make up of 'tropic' lines is quite different.

The thing that will take a beating is your waders, especially the neo-booties. That material was never designed to hold up to that kind of 'treatment.'

i keep rods rigged in the back of our car all the time and have never had any problem. our rear and side rear windows are tinted which definitely helps.
