Default Anyone know the name of this English Fly fishing author?

His name escapes me, but he died by drowning in shallow water after presumably falling and hitting his head on a rock.
Anyone know his name?

The author of "What the Trout Said", Datus Proper died a few years ago that way. But he was born in the USA.

Shakespeare's family has a rod/reel company. I used to have one of their automatic reels. He didn't drown though?
