Default Knot: Tippet to sink tip?

When tying a butt section to a sink tip line, is there a special knot to use?

Hi Dave,

Does your line have a loop or a cut end?

Should have included that..

it's just a old-style straight tip. I want to add a 12-18" butt section to the tip

I always just used a nail knot for that, if you are going to attach leaders using a loop to loop approach either a butt of 25 or 30 pound will work or if you're not after big game one of the Cortland Braided Loop connectors would work as well. I landed a 40 pound + salmon with a braided loop connector in the 90's so I have no qualms with their strength if properly attached. Some folks think they land too heavy for dry fly fishing, if that sounds like a problem then I would determine the diameter of the leaders you will be connecting and choose an appropriate size mono to nail knot to the line.

Hope that helps,

Ard
