Default Can someone ID this for me?

Hey all, I picked up an Abassadeur 156 at a yard sale this weekend. As usual I stripped the reel down to check it out and clean it. When I put the line back on I noticed this little dohickey connecting the leader to the fly line. I've never seen one before, pretty cool idea. Does anyone know what it's called or who makes it?

That's it Casey. Thanks! It makes for a clean connection but I'm wondering if your losing some of the "feel" since the line and leader aren't tied directly to each other. Has anyone ever used these?

when I picked up my used 6wt setup, the line the guy had on it had the flyline end of those on it, I cut it off not knowing what i needed to make it work, I now just use the knotless sleeved loop.

never used one, i had remembered seeing some last time i was at cabelas.
i would assume it would be fine for smaller lines (2-4), but i may question the strength on 5-6 weight rigs. on larger (7 and up), probably not.

just as was typing this,i watched tred barta catch a 65 ib. yellow fin on 6 lb. line
so who knows

Provided they are strong enough for whatever you are fishing for I don't figure you'll lose much in the way of feel.

If I am not mistaken, they were originally produced by 3M Scientific Anglers and called "leader links". If Cabelas sells them, fine, but I think SA abandoned them. Though a clever concept, they are really just an excuse to not learn how to tie a good multi-turn nail or Albright knot.

I agree, but as a collector of clever concepts that collect dust in my closet it caught my attention of course. Wow, that was a lot of C's. I feel like Dr.Suess.

Yes, leader links. I've used them for years, never had one fail, but 10 lb prob largest fish on one.
