Reel on rod in case?

Hey guys,

I just got my first rod last night, still waiting on the reel and line and all. I'm quite excited about it all, and have been gathering info on this website for a month or so now.

My first question - on this sort of case (Cabela's Prestige Rods and Combos)
do you leave the reel attatched when you put the rod away? This is actually the package I ordered, but I can't figure it out.

Ah, another fly fisher joins us.
But yes, that case will fit the rod with the reel attached. Notice how at the end showing theres that bulge that makes it look like a P? Thats where the reel sits when attached to the rod. I've always wanted one of those, but I never seem to have the money when I want.

Eric... I leave the reel on the rod pretty much all the time. This case is about 20 years old.

I knew the reel went in that part of the case - but the roll-up case where the 4 pieces of the rod go seems to prevent a reel being attatched while in the case. Perhaps I'll leave the butt-end of the rod outside of that roll-up case that goes inside the tube pictured, so that the material that the roll-up case is made of won't prevent the reel from being attatched.

Lord, this is about the hardest thing to describe without accurate pictures!

OOH you must mean a rod sock? Like a long sock with 4 dividers? Thats just for the rod. If you are traveling, you are meant to put the rod in that and then into the rod/reel case. But its just a suggestion.

Ah, I see. I think what I'll do is put three parts of the rod in the sock, and then the butt-end of the rod with the reel attatched in outside of the sock, but in the case.
