What are your fly fishing goals for 2012?

Mine are to catch the following new species on a fly rod:
Walleye
Paddlefish
Coastal Cutthroat
Westslope Cutthroat
Lahontan Cutthroat
Great Basin Redband Trout
Bull Trout

And to catch a native trout in Montana, Oregon and Alberta.

That's a little more ambitious than my goal; I want to catch my first brown trout on the Meduxnekeag river near my hometown. (On a fly of course) :)

Just to enjoy another year's fishing.

I'm getting to the age where every day above the ground is appreciated.

Mike: I'm there also and couldn't agree more! Just enjoy the time on the water that we have left in the tank!

My goal for 2012 would have to be spend some more time on the water. Luckily I believe that work has slowed down enough that I will be able to Get down to the Coast a few times, possibly take a trip to Colorado, and sometime between September and October, I will be moving back to Michigan for good, at least for a while!

Poke em, you'll have to snag that paddle fish, I've accidentally done it. Don't expect to land it on anything smaller than a ten weight.

Me? I want to catch fish... A lot of fish, catch a trout in the double digits for weight.

Fly fishing (and tying) is the first item on my "bucket list" that I'm tackling. Tying class starts January 9. Casting class starts March 27. My goal is to catch both a trout and a smallmouth on my own fly, by season's end.

In no particular order:
  • Catch a heritage brookie on a particular stream that my mother grew up on. (Heritage waters in MN contain the original wild native strain of brook trout, not the imported eastern strain.)
  • Fish with my father on his old favorite holes
  • Catch a mile-high brookie in the North Carolina Appalachians
  • Break the MN state mooneye record
  • Introduce fly fishing to someone new

We have Mooneye here big enough to do it. I got one back before I knew what the record was and let it go. It's still a bustable record.

- Improve my casting
- Catch my first bass on a fly rod
- Catch a 15" trout (any species)

Pretty basic goals, but this being my 2nd year of fly fishing I figure K.I.S.S. applies.
