Default Dimples in a pond: what am I seeing?

Often when I hit a farm pond out here in NE Kansas, I see a lot of activity in the water. It looks something like a ripple from a rain drop, but only one ring. I take this to be some sort of an insect emerging, in part because I often see swallows flying low at the same time, sometimes even hitting the water. I don't see the insects, though.

Any ideas what it might be and how a guy fishing a pond stocked with LM bass and bluegills might take advantage?

If it were me I'd start with a small beetle or grasshopper imitation and plop it out there gently and let it sit for 30 sec. Then twitch it a little.

Then I'd throw a small wooly bugger out there and try various retrieves.

If it's bluegills you'll know quickly.

Try it and report back.
