I will be purchasing one of these rods soon. Both are fast action. The VSL is a about one hundred dollars more expensive. I have heard good things about the Passport. And I'm not sure if the upgrade is worthy. Thanks for the help.

After reading about some forum courtesy standards, I want to try again. I live in Boone, North Carolina. Around here I'm fishing for some good ole' trout. Last week on the Watauga River I hooked what I would call a "monster" in these parts, which means somewhere between 22" and 30". I have not caught too many big fish over here in the Appalachian mountains. This is my home. He is my target.
With that being said, I am about to purchase a Winston rod. The Passport ranked well on some list that people say means something. Contrary to my nature, I am going to trust these guys. But, I noticed that the VSL is not a whole lot more expensive and I would be willing to wash a few extra dishes to save up for it. I don't know if the difference in performance is worthy of another hundred bucks.
Again, I'll be fishing for wild trout in the North Carolina mountain streams with an eight foot rod.
Thanks for your help, Philip
