Default Hemostat Knot

Started tying this knot yesterday and so far I like it. It doesn't waste your tippet, with practice less than an inch of tag. The hemostat knot appears to be a very good knot to use when your fingers are cold also. Any thoughts or opinions???

Interesting knot, I'd love to hear some reviews of it. I've gone back to tying the improved clinch, I like the Davy knot but it did not seem to hold well with very light tippets (unless I just had a day of blowing my knots...).

Well that's interesting, I'll have to give it a try.

Really neat! Especially for us older folks. It seems to me that it is an improved clinch knot tied with a hemostat instead of big, cold, clumsy fingers!

Great knot, it's very easy to tie especially in cold weather. I first started using hemostat knots 2 years ago when I watched a Dr. put 8 stitches in my right hand. I was impressed by how he tied off the stitches without ever putting down the hemostat. When I told him I was going to try that for flyfishing he gave me the hemostat and sent me on my way. (I took the scissors too. Surgical instruments make great tying tools )

One thing he didn't mention in the film is when you are tightening up the knot it will give a noticeable CLICK at its finish. After the click the knot is good.

Wow! This knot is greatness. Especially for us old guys with fat shaky fingers. Thanks Dave. I've got it down to about 5 seconds after threading the eye. Now I need something just as fast and easy for joining tippets and leader.

TAT, purchase some 2mm tippet rings and tie to the leader then use a surgeons loop knot to tie your tippet to the ring.
