Hi jerrybait,

You could have a problem. Here are a couple of things to try. Stretch the leader. If you can hang the leader with weight on it over a long period of time the kink should straighten out. If all else fails use some heat. You should know that heat is the enemy of mono. Here is how I would do it. The butt end of the leader should have a loop in it. put the loop over a nail or something similar. Take hold of the leader in your hand so you can pull on it and stretch the leader. With the other hand take a hair dryer and keep it at least a foot from the leader. Better to start some distance away and move closer if you need too. While stretching the leader just wipe the heat across the leader quickly. You need to get a feel of how the leader is reacting to the heat. Use too much heat and the leader is ruined. If this works you stand a good chance of weakening the leader at that point. It should still be stronger than the tippet.

Frank is dead on and that is exactly what I would suggest. I use a leader straightener from time to time, but just to lessen the coils. Be careful when taking the leader out of the package for the first time as knots and kinks can be created if the leader is not properly handled.
