Default Re: Rod Assembly Question

I always assemble my sections at a 45% or so angle and twist into final alignment. I've never had an issue and never had a rod loosen up when casting.

Default Re: Rod Assembly Question

I would never twist a graphite rod. If I remember correctly, they are usually made of two layers: the scrim and a wrapped layer of carbon fibers. I believe these layers run in different directions.
Anyway, carbon arrows are made essentially the same way, so this story may be of significance.
I was at an archery shoot and to get the arrows out of the targets, the guy I was shooting with would twist the arrows as he pulled them out. Although it wasn't noticeable at the time, when I got home I found every arrow had the two layers separated!
You may get away with twisting, but why chance it? I have never had a quality rod come apart while fishing.
