Lake Iliama Alaska Fishing

Well here is the promised pictures of our recent trip to Bristol Bay Sportfishing Lodge at Lake Iliama Alaska. Joe and Janice out of Grants Pass OR were great hosts and I highly recommend this fly out lodge. I start out with pictures of us on a skiff, the cockpit of our Beaver and our pilot, Jerry.

What river are you fishing with the JET boat? Was that from the lodge or did they have the boat stashed and you flew to it?

Hi Frank... We pretty much flew out to the boats except for Morrain? creek. I was suprised that they just leave the boats out on the water. Of course, it is a major pain to put the boats and motors on the float planes and fly them out at the begining and end of the season. We fished mostly by wading, but motored about in the jet boats. We jet boated the Iliamna River, Morrain Creek, the Ku or Kukaklic? River and the Kaddyshack? river. (I am too lazy to look up the spellling) I realized how remote we were when we got stuck out in the boonies for a while with no radios, telephones or paved roads. After that, I packed an EPIRB in with my gear!

Hi Fly2Fish... It really was a lot of fun. We had a really eclectic combination of guest that made it even more fun. Philosophically, I realize this was a high end trip, but I have unloaded way too many semis in my youth to take myself too seriously. I am just glad that I could experience a fly out lodge. I have friends/relatives that have gone to Alaska, stayed in a hotel or motorhome and hired a guide or went out on a boat for Halibut. They seem to have had just as much fun. So I think it is the _Alaska_ experience that is there for the taking!
