Default Simms Wading Staff Recall

Just found the following:
SIMMS FISHING PRODUCTS RECALLS WADING STAFFS
Staffs sold from March 1, 2010 through June 17, 2010

BOZEMAN, Mont. (For immediate release) - Simms Fishing Products is voluntarily recalling certain models of Simms 2010 Wading Staffs. The affected wading staffs have a detent button that may not engage or can become dislodged making the staff inoperable.

These staffs, offered in two sizes (52" & 56"), are sterling silver in color and are identified by Simms item numbers AWS101152 or AWS101156 (UPC numbers 94264-10102 or 94264-10103). Affected Wading Staffs are visibly identifiable by a silver cable connector (see photo).

The staffs were sold through authorized Simms dealers from March 1, 2010 through June 17, 2010. About 2,000 affected products were sent to retailers. Simms estimates about 1,000 have been purchased by consumers.

The issue was identified through company testing and customer use of the wading staff. No injuries have been reported in conjunction with the defective wading staffs.

Wading Staffs meeting the above criteria should be returned for replacement or refund by contacting Simms directly at 877-789-6555, by contacting an Authorized Simms Retail or by email at recall@simmsfishing.com.

Red face Re: Simms Wading Staff Recall

Sorry about the picture not being there... For some reason it did not copy along with the text...The picture shows a small round silver cap that the cable goes thru at the base of the handle section...Approx. 1/4 " outside diameter with the side having an engraved X-pattern all the way around...will try to take a photo of mine and post.

Wayland: The forum doesn't allow direct upload of photos to a thread. You first need to create a Photo Gallery, upload the photo there and then link the URL to the thread. Here is a good explanation in case you want to learn how to do it: The North American Fly Fishing Forum - FAQ

Default Re: Simms Wading Staff Recall

Note that not all Simms wading staffs sold during that timeframe may be included in the recall. I purchased one of the original 56" Simms wading staffs in late 2008 and after 1.5 yrs of use the connector cable corroded and started to break - so I sent it in to Simms this Spring for a free replacement and received one of the new silver staffs in late April of 2010. This would put my replacement staff right in the middle of the recall period.

However, when I looked at the image on the Simms website and compared it to my new staff, my wading staff does not have the silver cable connector as shown. So I don't think my staff is subject to the recall.
