Default coming up on the 1 year anniversary....

of the last time i caught a fish.

It's a sorry state of affairs over here for me in Philly
Had a few trips since June last year - skunks all round since then.

So with still about a month to go until the 1 year deal, and no sign of a trip between now and then, here's to these little guys
Maine Brookies - Thanks for the memories

Disclaimer - All fish were returned, unharmed, after reviving enough that they could swim off on their own steam to fight another day!

There's gotta be a 'gill pond somewhere in Philly? They're usually eager to help.

That is depressing. Time to play hookey from whatever is holding you back. I'd need to go to some kind of therapy if I was not out for a year. Do what you have to do and get fishing. Always makes me feel better.

Nice brookie!

For about the past month, I have been getting out 2-3 times a week and catching anywhere from 6-25 fish a trip. You are a much stronger man than I. I could not do it

Cheers! Indeed, my first fish on a fly was a little brookie on my first cast in the Sierra, many miles away from its native range.

Here's to YOU getting out there and casting at a few ASAP!

In California we have special bag limits on these wonderful non-natives.

(8) SPECIAL BROOK TROUT BONUS BAG AND POSSESSION LIMIT
(A) IN SIERRA DISTRICT WATERS OF SISKIYOU, SHASTA AND TEHAMA COUNTIES, UP TO 10 BROOK TROUT PER DAY LESS THAN 8 INCHES TOTAL LENGTH MAY BE TAKEN AND POSSESSED IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER DAILY BAG AND POSSESSION LIMITS SPECIFIED FOR THE SIERRA DISTRICT.
(B) IN THE SIERRA DISTRICT SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80, UP TO 10 BROOK TROUT PER DAY LESS THAN 10 INCHES TOTAL LENGTH MAY BE TAKEN AND POSSESSED IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER DAILY BAG AND POSSESSION LIMITS SPECIFIED FOR THE SIERRA DISTRICT. THIS ALLOWANCE DOES NOT INCLUDE RED LAKE IN ALPINE COUNTY OR KIRMAN, LANE OR ROOSEVELT LAKES IN MONO COUNTY.

(not sure why the CAPS - seems like they're shouting about it.) They do indeed make a nice shore meal and it seems the DFG is encouraging us to eat.

I don't know if that will help his mood

Eunan,

DUDE.................. I didn't know that! I used to do business in Philly and drove from my area outside Williamsport in about 4 hours. You need to get acquainted with Tioga - Potter - Clinton - Lycoming - Union - and Center Counties and do some short road trips. I fished Maine every year for almost 2 decades, that is an 885 mile drive and I only went for a week or 2 at a time once a year because of the distance. Unless you absolutely can't get away the north Central part of your state is some of the best trout fishing I've ever seen. That's why I am flying there tomorrow night from Alaska.

You could also be looking south to the Blue Ridge Parkway or I 81 south into Northern VA. There are some great places there also............

Hope you get out,

Ard

Eunan,

I want you to "Mapquest" Easton, PA... there are four (4) Class A trout streams within the Easton-Bethlehem area;
-1) Bushkill Creek (runs from Jacobsburg State Park to Easton)
-2) Saucon Creek (literally minutes off the Hellertown exit off I-78)
-3) Monocacy Creek (runs from Bath down through Bethlehem)
-4) Martins Creek (runs from Bangor down to Martins Creek)

Depending on your exact starting point (Philly is a big area), this hot bed of streams is about 1:15 to 1:30 away. Make no mistake about it, these streams hold tons of fish - wild and stocked - and some (especially the Bushkill) hold some very large wild browns.

If you feel they're easily within your reach I can give you the lowdown on each. If I had to rank them in order of personal favorites it would be; Martins, Bushkill, Monocacy, Saucons... all have strong sulphur hatches (which should be cranking up big time).

Tight lines.
