Default Balancing a rod/reel

Anyone ever tinker with a rod/reel combo to alter the balance point?

I've got a rod that I feel needs a bit more weight in the butt to balance at the spot on the grip where I hold the rod. Right now, the rod feels a bit tip-heavy in my hand and I think causes fatigue after a few hours of casting.
