Default Alright, where would you go?

If you had a couple weeks free in mid-October? I'm up for anything- freshwater or salt, warmwater or cold. Doesn't matter. Anywhere in the continental US.

Gimme some ideas

Florida. Just because im on a huge saltwater kick right now and must fish it soon. Plus there are all kinds of exotics to fall back on if the ocean is a no go

Don't go to Northern California for the October Caddis hatch, the fish are small, the rivers stink and the local residents are all crazy criminals. Go somewhere else.

If you have the oppurutnity, a trip to Alaska in the fall is KILLER.

That being said, it is pretty far away. I personally would go to the San Juan river, Lee's Ferry, South Platte or the Fryingpan river. All of them are great in the fall, and every angler should fish these all at least once. I am biased being a residen to fthe west, though.

I might also be tempted to go to the Sierras and try for some Golden Trout (if they are in season).

Then again, Idaho has some AWESOME waters. Henry's Fork is always a good bet.

I'm not much for saltwater, though a big ol tarpon is always nice.

I am with you there trout sniper - I have been wanting to visit the Golden Trout Wilderness for a few years. I would like to try and make it this fall.

Upper Rogue River for summer run Steelhead and Fall King Salmon. Only 'odd off' is you need a 5-6 wt rod for one and a 9wt for the other. Fish will tell you you've geared 'wrong.'

Toss in a trip to the fly only water on the North Umpqua (2.5 hour drive north) and you'll find out just what 'tactical fishing' is all about.
