Default One H-E-double hockey sticks hell of an attractor pattern.

My gal captured this mayfly (spinner?) with a #12 stimmie. I think it is a great photo.
Any of you Entomologists care to tack an ID on this? I am still working on English, but I guess a Latin lesson couldn't hurt.

Did the title of this post scare everyone off?

My guess would be a hexagenia limbata spinner.

If the Stimulator is a #12, that is not a Hex, Larry. At least not the one's that I am familiar with in Michigan. They are size #6 flies; just huge mayflies. Think salmonfly with a slender body and upright wings.

I would generically call that bug a Mahogany Dun.

This site says Mahogany Dun sizes are 12-16: Mahogany Dun | Paraleptophlebia | Fly Fishing | Westfly

Yup, I agree. If that stimulator is tied on a 200R which it looks like that is a 3xl #12. So to me, the mayfly is about a standard 12 or 14.

Do you see it differently?

She is going to get a kick out of this quote! She did her fingernails just for the trip knowing there would be pics of them and picked up the perfect accessory for them in the river.

I have to stop reading so quickly! I thought Larry said it was a Mahogany Dun.

Cool idea on the fingernails!
