Default tried a new fly pattern

Recently found the "cooper bug" pattern and immediately realized it was one I had to tie since the name Cooper is associated with so many fly fishing greats.

Did I mention my last name is Cooper?

Tied up a couple using red chenille and mule deer body hair on #12 barbless hooks this morning and headed to the local lake to test them.

First cast and I hooked a decent (8") bluegill. A few more 'gills then I hooked into something that smashed the fly as it settled on the water and fought harder than the 'gills had been.

Nice little green sunfish!
I love the way those "greenies" attack a fly!

I think I'll be tying more of this fly!

BTW - my son took the pic. He was along, but he was using the AbuGarcia Orra baitcaster reel and Cabela's glass rod he recently took out of my rod rack. Mealworms on a #12 Kahle hook and he was catching 'gills, too.
