Default Catastrophy In My Home Province

I am very troubled to report that Prince Edward Island (ironically known as Canada's "green" province) has a disturbing past of fish kills associated with pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer run off from farming practices.

Over the past 15 or 20 years, that I can remember, this terrible tragedy just won't seem to go away. Investigations are carried out fines are laid, and the fish and wildlife folks make their statements. But I can't understand why this type of thing still occurs here in this day and age. I rarely hear of it happening elsewhere.

Anyone have any thoughts? I don't blame the farming industry, just inadequate, soft restrictions, guidelines and buffer zoning when it comes to land use management.

The picture below says a thousand words.

The chemical companies have trememdous political power.

The chemical companies have tremendous advertising budgets

Just do a search of "Monsanto" combined with any number of terms like, "kills", "lies", "evil", "bribes" etc. and see what kind of hits you get. For that matter, add "Canadian" to the "bribes" search string.

An 800 million dollar fine to Monsanto is just a cost of doing business their way.
