For the greater part of my fishing life, accumulating stuff (rods, reels, hooks, materials, etc) was a significant part of the fun. To be honest, the only thing that slowed me down was coming to the realization that I owned enough stuff to last at least a couple of lifetimes. Even then I rationalized that I could hand stuff down to my kid. Now that my kid is approaching 30 years old, with alot of interests, unfortunately for me fishing not being one of them; I've decided I already have more than my fair share of stuff.

To answer the original question, many more than I have the time or interest to count.

Just did an end of year inventory:

3wt - 1
4wt - 8
5wt - 4
6wt - 2
7wt - 2
8wt - 1

I know it's said you can't have too many 4 weights, but...perhaps I should thin the herd a bit

I wish I was going to be trying out the new 4wt acquisition (which fishiowa recommended), but alas, Momma wants to go skiing. I will dutifully go as she does not begrudge the frequent visits from "the Magic Brown Truck." Our phone conversations go something like this:

Her: a strange long, rectangular package was just delivered

Me: careful sweetie, you know I have enemies, it could be a bomb

Her: I better throw it into the ravine then

Me: better yet, just carefully place it in my den and back out slowly. I'll defuse it when I get home from work

I just got into fly fishing a couple years ago, so my 2 fly rods are far from out numbering my casting rods yet.

7'6" 4 wt
8'6" 5 wt

I'm shopping for my first high end rod. Will probably upgrade the 4 wt, or add a 3 wt.

This many (although the makeup of the pile seems to change from month to month. There are now 4 two-handers in the pile, for example, and 4 sages and way fewer orvis.):
