The deli near my house when I was a boy sold a smoked fish they called chub. As I recall, it was pretty oily, but picked up the smoke flavor well. The whole smoked fish was about 8" long, and the flesh was scraped off the bones and eaten on crackers.

JP: Looking at the colors on those Chubs and knowing you only sight fish, it must be pretty difficult spotting those guys in the water.

Larry,It's not too difficult to locate the big guys...except when they're deep. You have certainly noticed they have a big mouth...seeing big chub gently taking your dry or...swallowing your nymph is very exciting...but you have to wait till the mouth is closed before striking

JP: Now that would be the hard part for me to do, with those big guys I would be too excited and set the hook early. Argh!

Awesome looking fish! My little girl caught a chub on her first time out fly fishing. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, those are very different from what we call chubs. Closest thing we have around here are fallfish which is definitely ugly compared to yours

Here's one of the more colored up ones I've caught

I caught this guy when I was in Sweden a few years ago. I figured it was some kind of a chub, but was never certain which one it was. I caught grayling in the faster parts of the same river, and was told there were nice pike in the slower sections, like where I caught this fish.
