Chasing big chub.....

Everytime I post a pic of chub on the forum some of you are surprised by the size of the fish we have here.Big chub are very exciting to fish because they are very spooky(that's why they get old)their cone of vision is wider and their abitlity to feel vibrations is better than the ones of trout.We fish them on sight either on dry(usually Batistou special) or on nymph(chub special)It's not rare to catch fish between 20' and 24'....last week I hooked the "chub of the year" but I couldn't land him ....

Congratulation to that pretty nice chub

We have similar sizes in my "home river Dill", but as you already mentioned, they are extrmely sensitive and it not easy to catch such a nice fish. I am always sneaking along the river and mostly I get one with a long distance cast with a big nymph or a fat dry fly.

There were some big chub in Pine Creek and the West Branch Susquehanna River at the mouth of Pine Creek when I fished those places JP. Usually I caught the biggest ones on streamers but have no photos of them. The fish you are catching are huge for small stream chub.

Is chub a good eating fish ? Our chubs just dont get very big,,,,mostly 6 inches or so..not much more than that. Are chubs a good eating fish ? The chubs here,,we seine and use on lay-lines for catfish. (Yep, I have a little redneck in me at times LOL,,actually, I just love eating catfish) The chub you guys are showing,,just boggle my mind,,I had no idea they got that huge.

Fly guy,I haven't heard of many people eating chub....though my friend the fischmeister told me he used to catch some for people who were starving during the war...and I know gipsies sometimes poach chub to eat.As for me I catch and release all the fish regardless of species
