just wondering what flies work best for fishing the northeast in the winter months

I asked this question and the answer seems to be "the same ones as the rest of the year, just deeper and slower".

I hope some other folks chime in here -- i've not fly fished through a winter yet. This year will be the first!

Depends what you fish for. Steelhead, nymphing (swing and dead drift). Not sure what else you'd fish for?

Salmon eggs in the G.L tribs

stonefly nymphs and the usual suspects elsewhere...deeper and slower is not a bad place to start

If I am going to play the statistics, you will be using mostly small mayfly and midge nymphs.

To be sure, do a Google search for a hatch chart for your region.

You can also contact regional fly shops for their recommendations.
