Good looking first tie! Couldnt help but notice the hook point looks a little bent open though?? Perhaps it is just the angle but wouldnt want you to miss a fish on your first fly just because of the hook being out of whack!

Nice first fly, and as others have said, better than my first one. tie the same thing in various colors brown, black, white, rust, yellow, add a little sparkle to the tail with some flashabou, and after tying a half dozen of each, reflect on how long it takes you to tie them and compare them to your first one - you will be amazed at how much easier it was to tie the last one, compared to the first, and at how much better (at least in my case) the last one looks compared to the first.

rule of thumb, tie a dozen, dozen of any pattern you really want to learn, then you will have it down. Maybe a little overkill, and for some it is more, for some it is less, but tie a few dozen anyway, then move on to the next pattern.

I may try a few of different patterns occasionally (tie up 6 or 12), but I only tie the "dozens" for flies I use, so, tying a few dozen is not big deal and they all get used.

Awesome bugger man! Tying is a great hobby and is much more rewarding than shooting the store bought stuff. Keep with it. Im currently teaching a few guys in my platoon the ways of the art myself. For some other easy and popular patters, a guy by the name of Tom Rosenbauer does a couple nice books for Orvis that break it down step by step. Congrats!
