I took another break from procrastinating packing. Convinced a friend to go for a hike and hit my favorite spot in AZ for a 3 day weekend.

Greetings from Aloha Hair, Nails, Tanning Spa and Coffee house here in Page AZ. Not a bad first week of retirement. I spent the first couple days of the sabbatical at Lees Ferry. Fishing was good in the AM but I spent the afternoons doing my best not to hook myself due to the wind. I decided to take a break from the wind and go for drive, ended up in Utah. Still windy but now very cold too, overnight lows in the teens and I'm camping out. Run off was heavy in the creeks and rivers so I hit some still water instead. The fishing was good on the lake, landed some very angry bows, plus some nice tigers and cutthroats. The weather looked like it was taking a turn for the worse so I took safe harbor with some friends down in Page AZ. Today's plan is to wait out the cold front here and do some striper fishing on Lake Powell in between storms.
Anyone have a suggestion for the next destination? Im thinking southwestern Colorado, but keeping an eye open for the Salmon fly hatch up north.

Finally some downtime and a solid data connection! Ive been circling the 4 corners area for the last few weeks. Fished and toured AZ, CO, NM, UT. Im going to start the 2nd stage of the sabbatical this week. Heading to Idaho, Montana, and or Wyoming, any suggestions? I would like to take another week or two along the way in Colorado but understand that its currently on fire.

Muzzy: We currently are in runoff, I'd recommend hitting the Green below Flaming Gorge (near Dutch John, UT). The flows were at 6k cfs earlier in the week, but are coming back down, just under 3k today. That should have flushed the moss out of the river. The land is all BLM land from the dam to the first takeout and BLM built a walking path all the way so getting away from the crouds isn't a problem if you do a little walking. Also there is plenty of camping in the area, although some of the campgrounds lost the shade trees due to the fire back in the 90's (as I recall). The best camping is up the hill, the Fire Fighters Memorial campground is cooler due to the elevation change and also has plenty of shade trees.

Great pictures! I enjoy the thread. There are fires. I was sitting in my office (middle of the hospital with no windows) and smelled a campfire, took me a second quickly realized the smoke from the Springs was up in Denver and it is pretty heavy right now. However remember still lots of fishing! Personally planning to take next Wednesday off and hitting a tailwater.

Seems like a blast ! Sounds like our area is next. Maybe visit the Firehole in Yellowstone, then the Henry's Fork in Idaho. Head north next, visit the Big Hole on your way to the Madison, the Gallatin, and the Jefferson. Wish I could head out and do the same. Enjoy !

Muzzy is headed up to Warren Bridge this evening, then tomorrow we are going to float on the Green River together, maybe Tuesday do the New Fork. I will do a trip report when we finish. Then I think Muzzy's plan is to head north into the park.
