Well I thought this might be a cool idea for a thread. A good number of people here have custom user avatars that are fly-fishing related pictures, among other topics. A lot of the time these photos have special meaning to us. Whether it be a favorite location, memorable wild fish, or even a picture of some other passion of ours.

However, being limited to a small 100x75 or 100x100 picture means we can't get a lot of detail from the avatar in a member's post. Some of these pictures have detailed and often entertaining stories behind them.

So I figured it would be a good idea to have a thread where we post the pictures in our avatar full sized and tell whatever story is behind them. I know some of the pictures have been posted before, but feel free to post them again.

Let's see your avatar full-sized and here the story about that beautiful trout, or that special place.

I'll go ahead and start. My avatar shows a small brook trout. It was caught in one of the very few streams which contain wild brookies here in Arizona. This place is special to me- it's a gin clear spring creek in the high mountains. Aspens, firs, and pines surround it and the air is fresh. I caught this little guy on a dry fly using my 2wt during the fall. The colors on this fish are gorgeous, and he is very memorable to me, despite not being the largest brookie of the trip. It took me three or four casts just to get the fly to make it through the overhanging brush. And when it did hit the water, he attacked it viciously.

A beautiful, spunky little fish caught from the heart of Arizona's high country.

Let's see your avatar photos and the story behind them. I don't know how many people will participate, but I figured it would be interesting to see.

funny though the pic and the cover of the book have him holding a fly rod in his hands but yet his entire book is about spinner fishing, no worries

Mine is from a few summers ago when I was fishing one of the branches of the Ontonagon River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We were staying at my in-law's cabin in Northern Wisconsin and my wife and I took a drive up into the U.P. I love Colorado, but wow sometimes I miss the green of the midwest.

Mine is a photo of the 16lb. tippet Smallmouth record I broke in 2007. I caught it right across the street from the grocery store. I always start off the fishing there when the big Bass are around by filling a styrofoam cooler full of water. When I get one big enough to brak the record I run it across the street in the cooler and have them weigh it. Then while they fill out the paper work, I run it back and let it go. It's worked eight times, but a couple have been broken. This one is still standing. I've never even had to work one of them to get it to take off.

Mine's the original artwork for one of my tattoos. It- the artwork- was done by a native artist in the Pacific Northwest. I have others that are similar, denoting my relationship with King Neptune and Mother Nature.

mine is the same on almost every forum I visit and it's very simple. It's basically a Crayfish (Mudbug) and the colors make it very easy to see if I'm looking for one of my posts.

I tend to rotate photos every so often. Speaking of which it might be time for a change in the not so distant future.

My current is from this past spring's annual trip. Good eats, good company, an occasional cigar and 10 days of pure bliss chasing those wild fish.

This is a Mother and should not messed with. She is bedded down in my planter with her twin calves; and it's OK with me.
