Seeing the photos of the Au Sable long boats brings back pleasant memories.

My Friend and fishing buddy Matt's Father-In-Law is the Grandson of George Mason, the George Mason whom donated the "Mason Tract" and is partially responsible for the creation of Trout Unlimited, so last Summer I was invited along to fish with them on the Au Sable and it was a real honor to experience that fishery with a man whom grew up fishing the river and knew so much about the history of the watershed. We floated various sections of the river in the traditional long boat, which were surprisingly easy to operate although having a good instructor certainly helped. We were too late for the Hex hatch, but the daytime and evening fishing was stellar. We also took Matt's Power Drifter down to the lower river one day and fished for Smallies, was a great trip.
