My only stipulation nowadays is that it cost a dollar or less.

I actually use a lot of Krazy Glue. When tying saltwater flies they get a drop after almost every step.
I don't think that there is such a thing as an "official substitute". Any more than one could claim that there is an Official Head Cement.

It doesn't appear that anyone here has posted anything which refers to an official. Can you quote something specific?

I use it and other brands also, because a Fly Tyer suggested it. I don't know the other brand names, but I don't think the cosmetic industry is being slighted in any way. It's kind of like saying, "Scotch Tape" or "Kleenex". Everyone gets it.

Also, someone just created a discussion topic about "being specific" and since people do expect something specific, it is helpful to just name a thing.

.
If anyone knows of another brand, I will happily buy it. It don't make no nevermind to me.

Four posts in this thread "specifically" name Sally Hanson's... including yours.
And that's no different than any other thread on any other web forum when this subject comes up.

maybe it's just the brand people are familiar with...

It's kinda like calling a pair of off-brand Crocs.. Crocs still.. or calling an off brand buff a buff still... it's something someone can familiarize with.. and can quickly understand what someone is talking about

Also I have read in a couple books authors mentioning Hard As Nails as the nail polish of choice.. maybe in the end it's just a choice.. or maybe it's just a brand that people have come to trust..

There is a reason I use and recommend Sally Hansens. It is really pretty simple.

I use Sally Hansens because it works. I haven't tried other brands because I have no reason to if SH works. I don't say use "fingernail polish" because unless I have tried all the other brands, I cannot be sure they all work as well as SH. They may or they may not. For me, it comes down to recommending what I know works.

I refill my head cement jar with Sally Hansen. That is other reason I only use Sally Hansen. Since there is Sally Hansen already in the jar, I want to refill with the same formulation.
itchmesir likes this.

right.. Why have a desk with 50 bottles of nail polish... 10 of which you use.. because the other 40 just didn't set as well as the other brand... go with what gets the job done.. and SH definitely gets the job done

It also seems that SH is always on sale at one store or another.. so this whole $1 difference from 1 bottle to the next is usually pointless once you take into account sales pricing

I don't see any claim about anything official.

Would you like to see Sally Hansen's forbidden? What exactly are you getting at? People are going to use and recommend what they know.
That is not exactly a problem is it? Are you trying to intimidate people by suggesting that there is something wrong about openly sharing what products used for fly tying? I don't get it. If its the same on most forums, its normative, right?

What if I tell someone I use Seaguar Flurocarbon. Is that an issue worthy of some sort of public censure?
What about Dr. Slick Scissors, or Sage Fly Rods? I use those too.

When visitors enter a forum, and they see contributors publicly criticized or ridiculed for product choice, it sends a clear message;
that it is not safe to openly post a message,
because someone is liable to jump all over you for asking or answering a plain question.

I use Sally Hansen's because I can go into a pharmacy, grocery store, or WallyWorld and buy it. As a matter of fact when I first bought it, that's exactly why I did. I was just about out of head cement and I remembered reading that folks recommended it. Rather than make a specific trip to a fly shop for head cement or place an order, it was easy to access. I've tried several different brands from Loon to I forget which others but Sally Hansens is hard to beat. The only other head cement I found that compares is Hard as Hull.

So for me, Hard As Hull, have to order or drive 30+miles. Sally Hansens I can get just about anywhere.

I don't see you your ****ing problem is.
I was only pointing out that there are other brands of suitable nail polish other than Sally's
If you don't like my posts than you are welcome to not read them.
In fact I'd prefer that.
