Hello from the West Coast

Hi, thought it might be time to introduce myself and say thank you for all the great information, stories and pictures I have found since discovering this forum. My name is Ken and I live in central California between Yosemite and Kings Canyon, I am not new to fishing, but am a newbie when it comes to fly fishing. I have always wanted to try this type of fishing just never got around to it, but since moving to this part of the state I figured with all the rivers and streams so close that it was time to finally stop talking about it and give fly fishing a try. I got a Redington CT 9' 5wt and Rise reel to match for Christmas, and just yesterday picked of a Fisher Original 9' 8wt through Craigslist for 30 bucks. I have been out a few times, and still learning the basics, casting looks so much easier on video! The best part is I am enjoying every minute of it, even the frustrating ones!

Welcome! If there is a fly club within driving distance you probably can get some help with casting. No club around then when on the stream find time to visit with others and in short order you should find someone who will share some tips or better yet maybe take you under their wing.

Hook up with a good club in your area. I googled California fly fishing clubs and got a list, but can't paste it here for some reason. Merced is probably your closest I guess. That's a beautiful area to learn in and to fish.
