First fish of the year..
It usually doesn't take this long, but my little C&R stream has be frozen. Thick. I took an hour at lunchtime today and discovered some open water, still lots of ice.. Kneeling on the ice, a rod's length back from the water, I drifted a San Juan worm down the edge, like it was an undercut bank. A nice rainbow- 14-ish- fell for it. When he realized he was in trouble he went back under the ice shelf, about 4 feet, I had to get in there with him to get him out and netted. Nice day, nice fish. Back to work..
