Does anyone know who the actual manufacturer is on these reels? Mine says "Made in England"...Hardy?

I have a 2LA 890 and a 678. Interesting question. Would like to know as well.

Mine is a dedicated northern pike reel (with a few bass adventures too)...it's one of the smoothest reels I've handled. If it is a Hardy manufactured reel, it's kinda like when Winchester used to make shotguns for Sear's under the Ted Williams name.

The vintage System II reels were made by Hardy, but the newer ones come from "BFR" (British Fly Reels).....good name huh ?

They're still good reels... I have 3 of 'em .... with the traditional sized arbor.
They were the workhorse reel for saltwater fly fishing here in the northeast for ages.

Yeah, I love both of mine. I do need a new one of the little triangle clicker things that goes inside the spool. The one mine came with looks like it had the back curve filed down, and starts to not click after a while of use.

So does a 2la fall into the "vintage" range?...this one's fairly new (for me anyway), I bought it about 10 years ago for a North Dakota pike fishing safari.

No, vintage would be 1970s +/- and long before "large arbor" and even the perforated spools
