Default We, and our native brook trout could use your support.

Hey guys, Rhode Islands native Brook Trout are in danger and we could really use your support, even if it is just a simple "like" on our Facebook page.

Our short term goal is to put a stop to the float stocking that is taking place over know native Brook Trout populations. After that, we will be discussing better management and extended catch and release areas and even possible dam removals which could eventually lead to having populations of sea run Brook Trout once again here in the ocean state. With enough support, the possibilities are endless. Lets save this wonderful fish that has survived ice ages and all other kinds of hell over the last 2 million years but is now at risk because of man.

Please, take a few seconds and like the Facebook page. The page is young but will quickly grow with more information and photos of Rhode Island Brook Trout. I know a lot of us here have a passion for these fish and I truly appreciate any "like" the page will receive. Thank you so much.

Just out of curiousity, is the local fisheries in anyway involved? TU?

Yes. I will be posting more details on the facebook page after a meeting coming up. I want to see how the meeting goes before I post all of the information for the public to see.

The only reason I ask is that there was a nearly identical thread last year on here. It was TU sans fisheries. It sounded wrong to me so I did some research. I called the local fisheries and the told me they were not involved and in fact thought what TU, who was involved was doing, ranked somewhere between worthless and outright destructive. I would be leary of a repeat of the Brookie project I refer to. Just one on the short list of reasons I have zero use for TU.

Not sure if I understood your question correctly. There is a local TU chapter, but there is no affiliation with our department of fish and game. Making fish and game aware of the damage that can come from allowing float stocking is one of our goals. The state finally joined the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture which is a huge step forward in my opinion.

Thank you so much! There isn't much on it right now as it was just created a few days ago and it will be updated regularly, especially towards the end of the month.
